Audience Feedback

Bellow are three examples of our music video questionnaires from our audience who watched our music video in a screening.

All our audience feedback gave some positive views about our music video.
A lot of our audience said that the black and white shots were very effective and fitted in really well with the style and lyrics of the song. This was very pleasing for Grace and I as this is what we wanted to achieve.

Some of the audience though that some of the editing was a little to quick, but Grace and I discussed that if we made it slower the visuals would have been a little boring and would not fit with the music as well as we managed to make the editing already.

Grace and I were really pleased with the comments which our audience gave about the visuals matching with the lyrics of the song, this was what we worried about the most, as we were not sure if the audience was going to understand the storyline of our narrative music video, but the feedback we got back showed that audience thoroughly understood the storyline which was one of the main aims we wanted to achieve.

The first question asked if the audience liked the music video, this was important to us as we needed to know if the audience stayed interested throughout the video or if they lost interest or became bored, but again we achieved the aim of not boring our audience which showed us that the audience were entertained during the showing and not put to sleep, this was vital information to us which we did not fail in.

We aimed this music video mostly at the young adults and teenagers, and we asked our audience what they thought about what aged audience they thought it was aimed at, almost every person said adolesence, young adults or teenagers, so again it shows we achieved the aim of what audience it would entertain the most and who we wanted to attract to watch the music video.

Music Video Finalised

Bellow is the completed music video which we have created.
Due to the limitation of resources that we could use, the footage may not be as clear as a real music video footage, this is due to the lack of resources, we had to use canon digital cameras to film our music video and use a simple tri-pod.

There is a shot in the music video where the camera pans up towards the sky from the female actor's face, we got this idea of shot from James Blunts music video, "Beautiful", this we found was a very effective shot for the type of music video we created and for the song choice we chose, as it brought out more emotions which the song was expressing to the audience.

We found that the finished music video came together really well and was a successful production, we are very pleased with the outcome. We managed to pass all complications without a problem and resolved the issues quickly and easily which helped to create a entertaining narrative music video.

Ancillary Task - Magazine Advert

When creating the advert we used conventions which are normally included in real media posters for music single/album releases. These conventions consisted of a relevant background to artist, digi pack design and the music, record label logo, the name of the artist, the date of release, title of the song and the picture of the CD cover.
We planned the advert out on paper before we started to make the advert, this helped us collect all our ideas and how we were going layout the advert.

For the advert we took photos of our female actor who featured in the music video for the back ground keeping it relevant to the other ancillary task and music video. We used similar imagery to the digi pack design so they could link between one another and kept the theme of the natural surroundings and honesty throughout the productions.

The branding font we used for our artist name was "Bush Scrpt MT" this brand name for the artist features on the digi pack as well as the advert, for identification for the fans.
Bellow are two images of the paper planned advert and the advert in the making when we were creating and editing the advert to make it as profession as we can. There was a porblem with the record label logo we could not figure out how to get rid of the whiteness around the song music logo, so we have just had to make do with what we could create.

Bellow is the image of our finalised advert, apart from the song music logo, we think our advert has been successfully created and links well with the digi pack and the music video, which is what we were aiming to achieve. As you can see for the song title and the release date information the font has been written in "Opus Plainchords" which also features in the digi pack.

Ancillary Task - Cd Digi Pack

My partner and I have designed a digi pack which matches the music with the style of our actors.

Bellow are the drawn up plans of the digi packs before we made the digi pack, we designed the cover to have a organic, earthy, natural look to the cover. We also thought that taking photos with a photography would match the realistic music video we ha also created. We thought of having the organic type of background and theme to the digi pack as we wanted it to look as natural as possible, as our music video is based around everyday life and when people split up, so having a natural style to the digi pack will bring out the more realistic view.

We designed the digi pack idea onto paper before we started creating the final production, this helped up bring our ideas and plans together for the digi pack and helped us to see the changes which might need to be made. It also helped us to think about fonts which would match our artist names. We also thought about how to set our digi pack ideas out by thinking about the layout of the tracks, what information is involved on a digi pack so would could make it look as real as possible.
Bellow is the digi pack in the making and the finalised digi pack design. As you can see we used the brand font for the artist name which was called "Bush Script MT" this created the identification for the artists fans, it also features in the advertisement. For the other bits of information, for example the song title, the about her section and the track listings the font is in "Opus Plainchords" this is also featured in the advertisement as well.

Bellow is the digi pack which Grace and I created. We took photos of our femal actor, Martha, by a tree on a picnic blanket. We took shots of coutryside as well to keep to the theme or earthy and organic ideas. Due to restricted resouces that we could use to create a digi pack, we could have made the product for real, but due to not having the right printers and sizes of the digi pack we were not able to do this. Although we were able to design, create and edit the digi pack altogether to represent what the digi pack would look like if it was created, and how we have made it as professional as we can but also challenging some conventions which our digi pack is much more different and unique to other real digi packs.

Editing and Camera Work

Filming

To film the footage we used the school digital video canon cameras, to collect all the shots and footage we needed for the music video.

Just to clarify due to my partner Grace Shiach being ill, I organised the filming with the actor and another helping hand with the filming for all the outside shots, which did not involve any problems and I managed to film all the outside shots without any trouble, and i also filmed the toothbrush shots. We did film all the inside shot together though.

Whilst filming our music piece there was a few struggle with the way of filming certain shots. When I filmed the shot in the Field where it is her face and I pan the camera up to the sky slowly from her face to the sky, I had to hand held the camera and film which was difficult as I had to have a steady hand and pan the camera towards the sky keeping my hand stead and moving at a slow pace.

For the outside shots, I was worried that I would not get all the footage done in one day so we could keep the continuity accurate, but I got all the outside filming done in the one day which was perfect for the continuity and perfect weather as we need it to be a drizzly or rainy which it was, so it all worked out very well when filming.

There was other shots for example when I walked in front of the two actors in the field whilst they spoke, I again had to hand hold the camera keeping it stead as possible whilst i walked backwards when they were walking towards me, this shot came out very jagged and uneasy, but when we edited the scene when we were putting all the shots together to create the film, it looked realistic and fitted in with the music which became less of an issue as well, so in the end it was not all that bad of a issue.

When we came to filming we missed out a couple of shot which were not needed, and changed some shots around into different place, so all the footage fitted in with the music and synced in the right places. This worked out very well in the end and we managed to produce a effective music video that we created. Bellow are some pictures which were taken during film.

Editing

When it came to editing all the footage together, and combining the visual with the vocal there was some issues in the way of matching the lyrics to the visuals. To begin with Grace and I edited all the inside shots together, but due to Grace being ill I had to edit the rest of the footage together which included all the outside shots, and matching vocals with lyrics and also finsihing off the final music production.

When it came to editing all the shots with the music, I added transitiong with some of the shots which were all Cross Dissolve transitions, the reason i added in the transitions, which were not the orginal idea, it made the music video more fluent and gentle paced when moving from a few shots to another, this matched very well with the music and the lyrics, and made the music video more effective and emotional like the lyrics and melody of the song, this also created a more effective way for the audience to understand the feelings that our actor, Martha, is acting which showed the heart-break the character was going through as she reflected on the memories with her ex-boyfriend.

In all the shots which have the actors and a couple in the footage we put in greyscale verifying that those shots are the actors memories of the relationship. We chose to put it in grey scale as it is commonly used in films and music videos to reflect on certain characters memories, pasts and feelings which is the reason we decided to have those certain shots in gret scale.

Some of the grey scale shots include the use of slow motion, this helped to create the feelings of the blurred memories which the character is expressing and showing to the audience in our music video, I think this works out very well as it expresses the character's sadness and rememberance of the times she had with her past lover.

When it came to editing the footage to sync with the lyrics and melody we had to change some of the timings on each shot, either making some of them slightly long or slightly shorter so the visuals matched the vocal. When the final production was finished the music video had been combined together very well, and the editing was to the best ability and as professional as we could make it.

When editing, we had some issues of getting the timing right the the added transitions which cause a few problem, but after thorough editing and lots of time put into the music video we over came the problem and successfully created our music video which synced correctly and fitting in well with the melody.

Filming Diary

19/11/10
First day of filming and we plan to film all the inside shots filmed at graces house in codicote. In the morning i collected our actors, Martha and Aaron, and drove to codicote, we were running late to scheduled as we had planned to start at 10am and we did't arrive in codicote until 10:45am. During filming our actors found it hard to stay serious to begin with and kept laughing, or not staying focused but onced we started to actually take the filming seriously the actors and footage we filmed came together very fluently, making it a joyfulf experience to have filmed all together.

Some shots we couldn't use the tri-pod we had to hand held the camera to film, which wasn't ultimately difficult and did not affect any of the shots.

15/12/10

Today my partner Grace was ill, so due to her illness I had to film alone today. I picked up the actors and orginally was ment to film in codicote in the countryside, which didn't quite work out due to there being technical difficulties with the camera which caused me to drive back to Hitchin Girls' School to collect another camera. In result to the problem with the camera, I decided that I knew a better place to film the outside footage instead which was in Hitchin, so i took my actors and my friend who helped to hold the storyboards to the place where I filmed the outside footage. I had planned to get all the outside filming done on this day, so we were ready to start editing. After setting up the tri-pod in the new location we swiftly went through all the shots, and the actors stayed completely focused throughout the filming process which made it easier to get the shots. Whlist filming my friend also took pictures of me filming and behind the scene shots.

At the end of the filming I had completed all the outside shots which was the aim for the day.
