Actor and Actress (including costume)

Actors
We have choosen our actors for our music video, which come across with a natural feel to the both the visuals of the music video and the music.

Our first actor is Aaron Boswell, we chose Aaron to act in our music video as he has a a steriotypical male look to himself which will identify the normality of a relationship view, and how we can show that he was the girls lover in the music video.

For Aaron's costume we wanted him to be dressed in a casual, normal everyday clothing, making it come across more realistic for the audience. Bellow are photos of Aaron in his costumes for the music video, one costume is with Aaron in his underwear i would like to point this photo out as it may come across as inappropiate, the reason we had him in his underwear was for the bedroom shot, if we had him in clothing it would be less realistic and strange, as no one goes to bed in underwear, I just wanted to clarrify the reason for the nudity.

Our second actor is Martha Stafford. We chose to use Martha to be one of our actors for our music video as she has previous experience of acting which will help to create a more effective and well acted music video.
We had Martha dressed in casual everyday clothing to present the normality of the music video, this also flows along with the idea of a realistic view from the music video in common occuring situations which occur throughout everyday life, when couples seperate.

Shooting Location

For the location of our music video, we decided that we wanted our video to include a realistic view for the events which happen visually and sound wise to the lyrics and the music video we are going to create.
We decided to use everyday life and the countryside enviroment to portray the normal life and relationship the lyrics from the song suggest. We want to make a music video where the lyrics match with visuals so the storyline is easy and represents the normality of the relationship, the actor and actress are creating.
We have several places where we are going to film our actor and actress. These places consist of a natural enviroment and comfortablilty of a home, which is prefect to present the emotions which are continuely piut forward.
These places are:
- A field or park - scenes of the actors walking (reflection of memories and reality)
- Lounge - (refelction of memories and reality)
- 2 different Bedrooms - (1 room for the packing scene and the other room for the couple getting into bed and when the actor is in the bed scene), (refelction of memories and reality), (towel and tooth brush scene only)
- The stairs (reflection of memories and reality)
- Bridge at local river (relfection of memories and reality)
- Drive way from the house - (for when the car drives away only), (refelction of memories and reality)
- Bathroom - tooth brush and towel shots (refelction of memories and reality)

Story-board Draft and Final Analysis

Draft Story boards

These are our draft storyboards which have not been drawn accurately, and do not contain the correct transitions, effects and timings for each shot, as they were the rough ideas which we first thought of for our music video, and putting the ideas together.

Final Storyboards
These are our finalised story boards which contain all the vital information of timings for each shot, transitions, effects and shot numbers in order. As you can notice on these finalised storyboards not only are they accurate, but there are shots we have cut out which we did not need that we had planned in the draft story boards, this has created a more fluent and effective music video, as the shots all fit in accurately with one another .

Ideas for music video - Analysed Lyrics

Bellow is the image of the lyrics which we typed out and analysed together.

This helped to create and collect all our ideas before we started to plan our storyboards and gave us a rough idea as to what we want to include in our music video and to what ideas of shots we want to link with parts of the lyrics.

Goodwins Theory

Andrew Goodwin came up with a theory for music videos. The notes bellow are what I made for a short summary of his theory.

- A relationship with the music and the visual motion movie. The visuals trying to illuminate, amplify and contradict the music. The editing can be influenced buy the pace or tempo of the music video.

- Music with a particular genre may have their own style of music video or iconography, for example a heavy rock band making their music video of them on a line stage performance.

- Record companies are demanding that music videos include lots of close up shots on the main artists or vocalists.

- The artists can create a star iconography throughout their videos, which can then become their stage image aswell as music video image, for example Lady Gaga uses obscene videos but also on stage her style is still inappropiate style and unique.

- There is a good chance that videos use intertextual references to either music videos, films or Tv texts.

- In some music videos there is references to voyeurism , esspecially for treatement towards women, but also in the terms of systems looking, this is by use of the cameras, shots also screens withon screens.

How goodwins theory can influence Our Music Video
Goodwins theory can help us to figure how we are going to base and structure our music video. We can use Goodwins theory in our production as we can relate the genre and style of music to visual motion movie to go along with the song we choose. If the music is indie type we will base it on something more orangic themed with ideas of natural colours and scenery so the music matches the visuals.
When editing the production together we will focus on the tempo and pace of the music matching it with the editing so it fit in with one another like Goodwin has says, this will make the visual and music combine together easier for the audience to understand and watch. We cna also match the visual with the lyrics for it to link with each other. Creating a narative music video.

Planning: Researching and Choosen Artist and Song Lyrics

My partner (Grace Shiach) and I were looking on unsigned.com for unknown artists to make a music video to. We came across four artists we were interested in. These were:

18 - Their music is aucoustic/rock/pop from Canada, their music is very slow and mellow, the guitar in the music gives a rather catchy upbeat effect to their music. The music wasn't quite what we were looking for, also the music would be hard to create a music video to, as it wasn't really clear.
The song we were interested in was "Keep on fighting".

Dean Ford - He is a solo artist, his music was also Aucoustic/pop/rock from the USA. His music is very relaxing and calm with emotional lyrics, throughout his music has constant use of repeatitive guitar playing. His lyrics are rather too "boy-band" style which is not what we are looking for. The song we liked was called "Dreams without doors".

Deborah Cade - Deborah is a solo artist, her music is Aucoustic/pop. Her music is very slow, relaxing with slight upbeat in the chorus, her lyrics are very emotive and realistic. The song we were very interested in was "Nothing the same"

Rebecca Watkins - Is also a solo artist, the genre of music she has been put under is other and pop. Her music Is very upbeat and catchy, her voice is quite high pitch which isn't what we are looking for. Her lyrics are too fantasy themed.
The song we liked the most was "I'll be gone".

After thourgh discussing with my partner, Grace Shiach, we decided to use Deborah Cades music as the music was good mellow pace, with upbeat at the chorus, creating a good contrast of chilled and fasted paced. Also listening to the lyrics they are very realistic, which gave us ideas for a music video that we could make. We also thought that all the ideas the lyrics gave us, made us thought that we could produce and create a successful music video to comliment and cobine with Deborah Cades music.
We were so interested in her song "Nothing the same" we found her myspace page, where she also featured other sings she has made, and emailed her asking for permission to use her song, the email is below. We have typed up her song lyrics, so you can look at the lyrics and relate them to the final production when we have made and completed the video.

Artist: Deborah Cade
Song Title : Nothing the same

"Nothing the same" Lyrics

I guess that I will not have picked up the telephone just now,
if id on known that was how, you were going to sound.
its been a while we both know, we both know,
that words have been said,
but the movies all wrapped in my head,
play the bad memories down.
do you remember the nights that you laid in my bed,
can you recall all the promised desire you fed, me
and did it mean a thing.

(chorus)
'cause baby i tried, to let you get rid of me this time
to believe all the tears that ive cried, well how can it be
and what with the twisted view, lovers like me and you
i wont ever admit our love to be true but my hopes are neverending
i guess the world will start turning again
nothing will be the same again, nothing will be the same again.

haunted by dreams that, im afraid to forget,
i guess you were right that i cared, more than i care to admit,
its not the first time it wont be the last when i saw you you held me and its happened so fast and inspite of the odds we said we both somehow thought it could last
dont be surprised if i cry when you drive down my road for the last time, dont feel the blame if i lie when you ask out a new woman, you wish it would rain and baby i feel it coming

(Chorus)
